New work by Bonny Lad inspired by Bicycle Reflectors
Sunggee draws inspiration for his contemporary
jewellery collection from his everyday experiences. With an academic
background in philosophy and literature, Sunggee’s inclination towards
introspection and abstract thought allows for a unique, deeply conscious collection to be constructed.
In this Reflector series, Sunggee used Bike reflectors he collected while studying a while ago. They are very playful and have very different views from different angles. This time Sunggee’s focus was texture of surface and playful connection with humble bicycle and wearable human jewellery.

New work in-stock by Clara Ho
Clara’s mission is to provide the modern man with accessories to
quietly distinguish him from the crowd. The materials used are
deliberately chosen for their natural aging qualities. As each piece is
worn, it develops a character unique to its wearer. As each piece is
designed by former architect Clara, she utilises the skills she learnt
practicing Architecture to create elegant, minimal pieces, uniting the
latest technology with ancient principles of proportion.
Her ‘The Marked Men’ collection stemmed from an exploration into ancient Egyptian beliefs about death and the soul. Each design has developed as an abstraction of a hieroglyph and its relation to the soul’s journey through the afterlife. The etched details wrap around the form so each piece can be worn multiple ways.

Art of the Cuff
Posted by Veronica Fil
17. Sep, 2013
Adorner of wrists, carrier of links; the humble shirt
cuff has been under-appreciated and under-utilised for too long. That’s
why, for the second year in a row, the Art of the Cuff
exhibition will be showcasing the work of talented Melbourne jewellers,
designers and artists who have rolled up their sleeves to customise
their own cuffs.
Now to clarify; the cuff is not just a hemmed sleeve-stop. The French cuff — the type featured in the exhibition — was once considered a cultural indicator of formality and affluence. According to factual, informative database Wikipedia‘s definition, “Double, or French cuffs, are twice as long and worn folded back on themselves. They remain the preferred choice for semi-formal, black tie events.” Boys, take note.
It’s all on show at Lord Coconut — arguably Melbourne’s quirkiest and finest men’s handcrafted jewellery and accessories boutique — and taking place as part of 2013 Melbourne Fringe Festival program. Close to 60 creatives have contributed to the project, including Chilean-born artist Juan Davila (who is also known for his work at the New York Museum of Modern Art).
Men of Melbourne; don your finery and get down to the exhibition opening on Tuesday September 17 (5:30-7:30pm) to appreciate some very fancy cuffs. Suit up!
