New stock by Patricia Denis

Science, natural history, technology and the environment inspire and inform much of Patricia’s output. Her mixed media sculptures often start with found objects of both natural and manufactured origin. Patricia’s artwork showcases her eye for detail and skill on an incredibly small scale, including life sized works of small animals. Using reclaimed, vintage and recycled materials, Patricia’s work culminates predominantly in sculpture and collage.

Skull and Crossed Bones necklace by Justine Austen

Skull and Crossed Bones necklace in sterling silver by Justine Austen
was $176
now $140.80 thanks to our Halloween Special online

Justine Austen graduated from Gold & Silversmithing with honours from Monash University in 1998 and attained a fellowship from the gemmological Association of Australia in 2004. Working as a contemporary jeweller and miniature sculpture artist Justine creates exhibition pieces, commissions and a number of limited production ranges sold through various galleries nationally. Balancing somewhere between fine art and kitsch Justine’s creations seem quirky, play-full, absurd and offbeat. The transformation of somewhat random objects and materials into new works dictates the technique, depending on the piece and the envisioned outcome. Her style is graphic, using a simple and strong visual, icongraphic language that she has developed drawing on historical and modern elements and references.

Horse & Rider lapel pin by Petr Hanzak

Horse and Rider lapel pin in titanium by Petr Hanzak
$210
Available in-store or online

For me jewellery is a creative outlet, designing and making hand made jewellery enables my expression as a craftsman; provides a fulfilling challenge of constructing and bringing a jewellery piece to life. I aim to design unique and novel concepts while being firmly grounded in the contemporary art and jewellery world with images that are instantly recognisable. I am a believer in simple stylish designs that are not over worked and busy. I am constantly thinking of new ideas and images of interesting objects and things that I would like to create.

This current nautical themed range grew from one concept piece and has been refined to the current range. This being my first range for the contemporary jewellery market gave me freedom to make something interesting and original to me, with strong colour that comes from the anodising of titanium. Even though this is my first series, it strongly represents my design and manufacturing style, and my enjoyment of creating pieces with good durability. Titanium presents many challenges in construction to maintain the ability to repair the pieces, but I feel it is worth it as the titanium enables the use of strong colours which gives me joy.

Dragon Fly pendant by Katzinka Tschierschky

Dragon fly pendant in sterling silver with chain by Katzinka Tschierschky
$370
Available in-store or online

Katzinka Tschierschky is a Melbourne-based goldsmith and jewellery designer. Born and raised in Germany, she studied goldsmithing at the Zeichenakademie (Hanau) for three years and a year of jewellery design at the Fachhochschule fur Gestaltung (Pforzheim) before emigrating to Australia in 1999. She went on to study jewellery and 3D design at Curtin University in Western Australia, where she won both the “Artisans of the Sea” award for outstanding achievement in Jewellery/3D design, and the award for best student in the third year visual research programme. She moved to Melbourne in 2001 and has since been working as an independent jeweller.

In addition to working with found objects, Katzinka favours a two dimensional approach. Through the use of the traditional technique of hand engraving and carving she transforms the medium of drawing into three dimensional wearable pieces.

“my inspiration is the old, the odd, the found, the image, contrasts and colours, stones, the sparkle, the light and the heavy, the story, the movement, the moment, distance and lines.”

Exhibitions include When It Rains It Pours (MDF 2007), Gallery Deux Poisons (Tokyo 2007), e.g.etal installation (Melbourne 2007), Jewel Fair (Seoul 2007), Penthouse Mouse (Melbourne 2008), Thonet chair 18 (MDF 2008).
