Comonas Flyas lapel pin by Justine Austen
Comonas Flyas lapel pin in sterling silver by Justine Austen
$25
Available in-store or online
Justine
Austen graduated from Gold & Silversmithing with honours from Monash
University in 1998 and attained a fellowship from the gemmological Association
of Australia in 2004. Working as a contemporary jeweller and miniature
sculpture artist Justine creates exhibition pieces, commissions and a number of
limited production ranges sold through various galleries nationally. Balancing
somewhere between fine art and kitsch Justine’s creations seem quirky,
play-full, absurd and offbeat. The transformation of somewhat random objects
and materials into new works dictates the technique, depending on the piece and
the envisioned outcome. Her style is graphic, using a simple and strong visual,
icongraphic language that she has developed drawing on historical and modern
elements and references.

Gordian Knot brooch by Youssef Tayeb
Gordian Knot brooch in 3D printed bronze infused stainless steel by Youssef Tayeb
$200
Available in-store or online
Melbourne based and Melbourne designed, Side Project One is a jewellery
collection created by myself, Youssef Tayeb. As a freelance Industrial Designer
by trade, these unique pieces draw on my expertise in the field of rapid
product prototyping.
Coupling digital modelling with additive manufacturing processes (3d
printing) allowed me to produce intricate, geometrically driven forms, adapted
to a wearable medium.
Produced in limited edition runs and hand finished in a tiny studio,
these pieces explore my relationship with design and craft, intent and outcome,
the hand and the machine.

$300
Available in-store or online
Deeana
Michela is a Melbourne based jeweller that is still exploring her style. She
completed her Advanced Diploma of Engineering Technology: Jewellery in 2009 and
has since started experimenting with different styles and techniques. She is
heavily inspired by antique and vintage jewellery, fairytales as well as tribal
and ethnic adornment, and is constantly
looking for new sources of inspiration. Through her work, Deeana aims to
capture elements of life that are both enchanting and honest, working them into
a piece that is versatile, personal and bold. She places a strong emphasis on
adaptability, so that each piece reflects the individual story of the wearer.

Brooch for a Comedian's Mother by a.l.i.Alexander
It's Melbourne International Comedy Festival time which allows us to present our Brooch For A Comedian's Mother brooch/pendant in sterling silver by a.l.i.Alexander.
During the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2008, Alexander noticed a lot of visiting comedians in town during the day. She figured that however wacky and zany they are, they all had mothers that are normal, and they all needed to buy their mothers a present from Melbourne. She thought she could make something.
The criteria she set herself were; tasteful (for the Mums), cheap (for the comedians) and uniquely Melbourne (for both of them). It turned out that a brooch was going to be too expensive. The solution was to put two loops on the back so it can be worn as a brooch by putting a safety pin through them, and it can also be worn as a pendant. I like that it's called a brooch even though it hasn't got a pin and many people wear them as pendants.
When explaining her jewellery practice, Alexander states that “Although I would love to be, I am not a bench jeweller, most of my work is made in wax by me first, cast, and then finished by others“ she goes on to say that “these brooches reflect that handmade nature of my work where you can see where my fingers have pushed, prodded and pulled the wax to make these pieces not just for a Comedian’s mothers but mothers everywhere”.
Each ‘Brooch for a comedian’s mother’ is approximately 4.5cm W x 3.5cm H in size and priced at $319 GST inclusive. They are available in-store or online with free delivery within Australia.

Scorpion Brooch
Scorpion Brooch - RRP: $352
"Using principles akin to the design of origami models, jeweller Justin Siow has produced a range of insect brooches, lapel pins and cufflinks for the contemporary male. Each piece starts with a single rectangular strip of titanium, into which a design is hand-cut and then folded to produce the final three dimensional item.
