Clara’s mission is to provide the modern man with accessories to quietly distinguish him from the crowd. The materials used are deliberately chosen for their natural aging qualities. As each piece is worn, it develops a character unique to its wearer. As each piece is designed by former architect Clara, she utilises the skills she learnt practicing Architecture to create elegant, minimal pieces, uniting the latest technology with ancient principles of proportion.
Her ‘The Marked Men’ collection stemmed from an exploration into ancient Egyptian beliefs about death and the soul. Each design has developed as an abstraction of a hieroglyph and its relation to the soul’s journey through the afterlife. The etched details wrap around the form so each piece can be worn multiple ways.

New work by Emily Becher

Emily is a jeweller based in Melbourne working from a shared studio in Kensington’s Ironside Studios. Her work is quite varied with several divergent ranges that each explore distinctive concepts allowing for experimentation with different techniques.

Her heavily textured range stocked by Lord Coconut explores the tangible experience of acquisition, the tactile nature and connection that one can encounter with their choice of adornment. Her work investigates the playful nature of interacting with moving elements, the sparkle of light reflecting from surfaces and the base characteristics of surface texture that allow one to visually and physically engage with ones choice of embellishment.

Emily graduated from NMIT with an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery in 2012 with High Distinction. This follows an academic trail of consistency to perform at a high level winning numerous awards, the most recent recognition received in 2012 from the Gold & Silversmiths Guild of Australia for Best Hand Skills, and has since been accepted as a Fellow member of the Guild in 2013. Her work has been selected for a range of prestigious exhibitions including Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork Award 2013, Graduate Metal ’13 and Contemporary Wearables ’13.

Justine Austen graduated from Gold & Silversmithing with honours from Monash University in 1998 and attained a fellowship from the gemmological Association of Australia in 2004. Working as a contemporary jeweller and miniature sculpture artist Justine creates exhibition pieces, commissions and a number of limited production ranges sold through various galleries nationally. Balancing somewhere between fine art and kitsch Justine’s creations seem quirky, play-full, absurd and offbeat. The transformation of somewhat random objects and materials into new works dictates the technique, depending on the piece and the envisioned outcome. Her style is graphic, using a simple and strong visual, icongraphic language that she has developed drawing on historical and modern elements and references.

Katzinka Tschierschky is a Melbourne-based goldsmith and jewellery designer. Born and raised in Germany, she studied goldsmithing at the Zeichenakademie (Hanau) for three years and a year of jewellery design at the Fachhochschule fur Gestaltung (Pforzheim) before emigrating to Australia in 1999. She went on to study jewellery and 3D design at Curtin University in Western Australia, where she won both the “Artisans of the Sea” award for outstanding achievement in Jewellery/3D design, and the award for best student in the third year visual research programme. She moved to Melbourne in 2001 and has since been working as an independent jeweller.

In addition to working with found objects, Katzinka favours a two dimensional approach. Through the use of the traditional technique of hand engraving and carving she transforms the medium of drawing into three dimensional wearable pieces.

“my inspiration is the old, the odd, the found, the image, contrasts and colours, stones, the sparkle, the light and the heavy, the story, the movement, the moment, distance and lines.”
