Melbourne’s foremost men’s jewellery emporium,
Lord Coconut, continues its love
affair with emerging young artisan jewellers, with an exclusive solo exhibition
of painted vintage book covers titled “How to mend a broken heart” by Beth
Croce as part of the 2013 Midsumma Festival.
The works presented in this exhibition, hand
painted on vintage encyclopaedias, are a different take on how to mend a broken
heart. Hunky boys and dashing dolls demonstrate this hands-on approach to heart
surgery. Heartache never looked so good.
Croce explains that, “I've made paintings of little
people in my cardiac illustrations on the covers of a series of vintage encyclopaedias.
The 1950's calendar style figures are hands-on at work in today's cutting edge
surgical procedures. It's old and new, vintage with modern, art meets science -
some of my favourite juxtapositions rolled into one fab little show”.
Beth Croce is a Johns Hopkins (USA)
trained, certified medical artist whose 18 years as a biomedical illustrator
has inspired the Bioperspective line of jewellery, prints and paintings. Her art is informed by her award-winning professional
illustration work and takes anatomically accurate jewellery, prints and paintings to a new level.
